What is Challah? On Shabbat and the holidays, it is customary to eat a specially braided bread. This bread is normally sweeter than the bread we eat daily. We eat Challah to commemorate the pieces of bread, called in the bible manna, which miraculously fell from the Sky in the Sinai desert. The Israelites fed on manna for forty days while wandering in the Sinai desert on their way to the land of Israel. These pieces of bread did not fall from the sky on Shabbat. God has sent a double portion before Shabbat came in. When Shabbat comes in, a special service is held that sanctifies the Shabbat. Challah is eaten during the Kiddush service. After the head of the family recites a prayer, a wine is poured, and all members of the family drink from the Kiddush cup. Then, another blessing is said over two loaves of Challah. After the blessing is recited, each member of the family eats a piece of Challah . What is the use of Challah cover?
